Gladstone staff recognised for long service

Two Gladstone campus staff members were presented with Meritorious Service Medals on Friday in recognition of their years of employment with CQU.

Gene Springer and Dr Andrew Wallace have worked at CQU for 25 and 15 years respectively.

Mr Springer started working as an electronics technician at the Rockhampton campus while he was a full-time student completing his Associate Diploma of Electrical Engineering.

Dr Andrew Wallace was presented with a medal in recognition of his 15 years at CQU. Dr Wallace moved to CQU Gladstone from Sydney in 1990 to take up a position as a lecturer with what was then the Faculty of Arts.

Dr Wallace moved to Gladstone after completing his PhD at the University of Queensland and experience as a tutor at both UQ and Griffith University. Throughout his time with CQU Andrew has had numerous roles including Acting Head of Campus for Bundaberg for six months and Head of School of Contemporary Communication. He is currently the Gladstone campus Subdean for the Faculty of Informatics & Communications.

PhotoID:2564 During his time at Gladstone campus Andrew also produced a number of plays and said that the success of these plays had resulted in some of his most memorable and rewarding moments.

“It was always a relief when the plays I directed came together on the night despite my forebodings. Particularly the production, “Aliens” which involved a live band, video and computer graphics combined with live performance, a large and diverse cast and a challenging venue,” said Dr Wallace.

Gene and Andrew were presented with their medals at a campus luncheon on Friday.
