Melbourne students warm to the snow

Client Services at CQU Melbourne International Campus organised a day trip to Mount Buller recently, yielding a tremendous response of 67 students.

Four staff also participated in the excursion. The trip was initially planned for Mount Baw Baw, given its proximity to Melbourne and its affordability.

The group arrived at the site 4 hours later. For most students, this was their first experience of snow and their excitement was apparent.

Many students hurried to hire their toboggan while others frolicked in the snow. Many chose the arduous ascent of the mountain summit on foot rather than use the ski lift - simply for the sheer experience of walking on snow.

There was no mistaking their exhilaration. Later, the hospitality shown by students as they generously shared their home-cooked meals with staff was warming. This was a wonderful day for staff and students.

Some feedback from students included:.

“A fantastic day. I really enjoyed it – I felt the snow for the first time. I’ve always wanted to see snow but never had the chance. I also enjoyed meeting other students and staff. Thank you MIC".

“A real relaxing day and a dream come true because I had never been to the snow before. MIC gave me a chance to go and feel the snow. Staff were really really good, they were sharing and friendly; they got to play with you and mingled so well as if they were long time friends. Very well planned and flexible with so much preparation and advice beforehand that we were well prepared. Good assessment of the snow situation for taking us to Mount Buller rather than Mount Baw Baw. No other place would have done this without charging a lot more money. A big thank you to MIC".
