A marine biologist was able to videoconference while underwater in a Townsville tank, during Reef HQ presenter Megan Sperring's session for a Regional Science Showcase audience at CQUniversity Bundaberg.

Primary and secondary teachers from the Bundaberg Science Educators Network attended the event on Saturday, August 15, to explore the theme 'Outside the Lab'. Parents and children from Bundaberg schools also attended.

CQUniversity's Rose-Marie Thrupp presented on the use of 'Conversations about Science for assessment in Science' and said the event was a great success, thanks to assistance from the ITD team in Bundaberg and Rockhampton.

"The marine biologist was able to comment from within the tank, showing us corals and fish as well as sharks and turtles," she said.

This event, in conjunction with National Science Week, was arranged by the Science Centre of Innovation in Professional Practice (SCIPP) based at Kepnock SHS.

It featured a range of presentations, including use of the Charles Darwin Resource Book; lessons on the source of drinking water and effective use of Powerpoint.

Nick Johnstone from the Science Teachers Association of Queensland (STAQ) presented about Inquiry Based Science, the Masters Report and Physics and Chemistry ICT Resources.
