ITD trials maintenance windows; feedback sought

ITD will trial a regular Information Technology “Maintenance Window” starting Wednesday 20 November from 8:00pm-11:00pm AEST. The trial, open to feedback from the CQU community, will allow ITD to establish necessary procedures and systems to implement a regularly occurring maintenance window.

ITD is advising CQU staff and students to plan their work around maintenance periods in order minimise the impact upon work processes. Regular planned maintenance should also reduce the occurrence of unplanned/emergency maintenance, according to the ITD Client Liaison Group.

The trial is scheduled to continue for the duration of the Spring and Summer terms, concluding Wednesday 5th February 2002.

Feedback received from you following the trial will determine whether the ITD maintenance window will be implemented for the remainder of 2003.

Academic areas offering Spring and Summer should check assessment dates for clashes with the maintenance window. Concerns regarding the maintenance window and its effects on assessment items during the trial must be reported to ITD as a matter of priority. ITD will work closely with faculties to ensure that the maintenance window will not interrupt the submission of assessment during the trial.

Every Wednesday morning during the trial an email will announce to CQU staff and student mailing lists which services will be unavailable during that evening’s maintenance window. Information will also appear on a website (http://www.cqu.edu.au/itd/downtime.htm). At the conclusion of the maintenance window a follow-up email will be circulated.

“As a service provider ITD has a responsibility to the CQU community and we must consider and respond to the needs of our clients,” said Ian Jenkins, Please note that unavoidable emergency maintenance will be scheduled as necessary Email may be directed to the ITD Client Liaison Group regarding the ITD Maintenance Window trial.
