Doors open and business as usual at CQUni

Friday's release of a credit report by Queensland Treasury on the financial situation of CQUniversity Australia forecast a shortfall in expected resources available to fund the University's operations beyond 2011.
That does not mean CQUniversity is closing.
In fact the Federal and State Governments, which have strong commitments to students and to the provision of Higher Education in regional Queensland, have said they will work closely with CQUniversity over the next few years to ensure that the University has appropriate funding to deliver the services and programs that Central Queenslanders want and require.
What the report shows is just how extraordinarily expensive it is to run a regionally-based university such as ours.
That's why we - with government, other partners and the community behind us - are working together to find solutions that will transform the University and secure its long-term position as Central Queensland's own University.
With a total of more than 60,000 graduates and more than 40 years of service in Central Queensland, CQUniversity (one of the region's largest employers) has formed part of - and will continue to form part of - the fabric of our communities.
Students' coursework and studies are not jeopardised by this Report, nor are any campus operations.
CQUniversity will continue to operate as business as usual.
The University has encouraged community members to contact the Federal and State Ministers of Education and/or their local MP to communicate their support of CQUniversity and their desire for a strong, independent, CQUniversity.
