The invitation is in recognition of his extensive Work Integrated Learning research and curriculum development achieved in both CQUniversity's undergraduate Engineering and Physics and postgraduate Maintenance Management academic programs.

The Open University was the world's first successful distance teaching university and was founded on the belief that communications technology could bring high quality degree-level learning to people who had not had the opportunity to attend campus universities.

As CQUniversity embraces a similar philosophy of technology integration to enhance student learning opportunities and experiences, Dr Keleher's visit serves to highlight the synergies between the 2 innovative and forward-looking institutions.

Dr Keleher's busy schedule during his visit includes presenting workshops of his research and he has been fortunate to be able to participate in a workshop conducted by Etienne Wenger - author of Learning in the Landscape of Practice. Etienne Wenger is internationally acclaimed for his work and research in the area of Communities of Practice.

Dr Keleher has also been accepted to be a Fellow of the Practice-Based Professional Learning Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning; which extends beyond his visit to The Open University.

PBPL Fellows play a key role in The Open University's learning community of colleagues and act as ambassadors for PBPL, promoting the development of practice-based learning within the Open University and beyond.

Elected by the PBPL Principals, they have made a substantial contribution to the work of the CETL and demonstrated an interest in and commitment to practice-based learning.
