Sydney Campus Director Award Winner secures Competitive Internship

She comes from Zimbabwe, speaks with a soft English accent, is extremely conscientious and sets very high standards for herself. Behind the composed exterior, however, is a young woman with a great sense of humour who has gone from strength to strength as she pursues her professional goals in life.

Her name is Tendayi Makwehe. Her teachers have nothing but praise for her "can do attitude" to learning. Dr Rohan De Silva, a Sydney campus lecturer says "Tendayi was very active and prepared to face the challenges in her studies in IT with us, a field that was completely new to her..." In fact Dr De Silva was certain "...that she was going to get to the top."... PhotoID:7942, Ms Tendayi Makwehe

This vote of confidence in Tendayi's ability is well deserved. At the Sydney Campus September Graduation Ceremony she carried off the Campus Director's Award for Leadership.

Tendayi clearly satisfied all the requirements for the Award at Sydney campus. During her studies for the Master of Information Technology she was awarded numerous Distinctions and High Distinctions. Her name appeared on the Honours Board listing no fewer than seven occasions.

On top of this significant achievement Tendayi applied for and recently won a very competitive CQUniversity Internship in the Information Technology Department at Rockhampton campus.

"I saw the invitation on the CQU website, she says, "and thought I would apply." When she was called for an interview Tendayi says she "didn't know what to expect"... PhotoID:7943, With Sydney Campus Dir. Susan Loomes

The long application process and intense preparation for the interview left her exhausted.

"Firstly, I had to undergo an aptitude test. Then came a "group assessment" exercise and finally a ‘face-to-face' interview. The testing process went from 9.00am to 2.00pm but it was "all worth it" she comments, especially after she was told "we may have a position for you".

Tendayi will take up her new 18 month contract position as a Web analyst with the IT department in mid October. After that she hopes to pursue her interests in business software design but at the moment is happy "to see where the new job takes her".

Tendayi's time spent at Sydney campus was culturally enriching. "The unified community that one finds at CQUniversity", she says, "comes from mutual regard, respect and charity towards all."

Everyone at Sydney Campus wishes Tendayi the very best with her new job and future career.
