ROCKon delighted to screen 'Samson and Delilah'

The ROCKon Music Summit - proudly supported by CQUniversity - is delighted to be able to screen the 2009 Cannes Award-winning film Samson and Delilah.

The critically acclaimed film will screen at 11am on Sunday, July 12, during the Summit at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre, Rockhampton.

Rockhampton is one of only 2 regional cities in Australia to have an advance screening of Samson and Delilah.

"Because of the tremendous response to Samson and Delilah, we were concerned we might miss out, but the producer Kath Shelper and distributors stood by their commitment for us to screen it.

Rockhampton, the only regional city in Queensland to present a national music summit, is at the cutting edge," ROCKon Coordinator Michael Walker said.

Mr Walker said the screening supported the ROCKon program segment 'The Importance of Music in Film', at which Sydney-based presenter Kim Green will talk about how she supervised the music licensing for Samson and Delilah.

Ms Green suggested the screening about 6 weeks ago before the movie hit the headlines, correctly predicting that the hard-hitting and confronting film "will be one of the movies of the decade".

Samson and Delilah received a 5-minute standing ovation at the Adelaide Film Festival and ABC TV reviewers David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz gave it a rare 5 stars. Stratton said: "It's one of the finest films made in this country".

At the world's most prestigious film festival, The Cannes Film Festival, Samson and Delilah won the 'Camera d'Or' award (best first film for a director) for Warwick Thornton.

The ROCKon Music Summit comprises seminars and workshops from July 10-12. The event will be launched on Friday July 10 at the Pilbeam Theatre with a concert headlined by the iconic band GANGgajang whose song This is Australia has become a popular anthem. The concert will also feature the winner of the ROCKon Song Awards and Sydney based remix engineer DJ Climax.

Bookings are now available for the GANGgajang concert and/or the Summit at the Pilbeam Theatre. Phone 4927 4111
