Budding cooperation in the Philippines for CQU researchers
Published on 18 May, 2006
Professor David Midmore, Associate Professor Stewart Lockie and Dr Grant Zhu spent last week in the Philippines, undertaking 4 research activities.
Professor Midmore and Dr Zhu met with Philippines’ cooperators on an Australian Centre for Agricultural Research (ACIAR) funded bamboo project to finalise data analyses and to determine dates for an end-of-project mini-symposium.
Research outcomes and policy imperatives will be presented in Manila in November this year.
Professor Midmore and Associate Professor Lockie met with potential cooperators through an ACIAR funded contract to develop a research and development proposal for small-scale drip irrigation for sloping lands for high value horticulture.
Midmore and Lockie separately met with cooperators on USAID and ARC funded projects addressing agricultural sustainability and biodiversity, respectively.
Links between CQU and the Philippines are set to be strengthened though these activities, opening up opportunities for enrollment of postgraduate research students.
