Business and Law certified under ISO 9001:2000 Making initial steps towards a Total Management System, Central Queensland University’s Faculty of Business and Law have been quality certified under ISO 9001:2000.
Under guidance from Director of QAS International, Brad Bishop, and driven by Acting Dean Les Killion and Administration Services Manager Irene Sharrock, the Faculty’s staff worked hard for seven months to bring processes and systems to certification.
Other university faculty and departments including Communications and Informatics and Division of Teaching and Learning Services are also participating in the certification process.
To ensure the Faculty was ready for this audit, 39 staff were trained as Quality Management Systems Internal Auditors and conducted audits of all Faculty processes.
“Attaining ISO certification is, however, just a step along the road to the final goal of having a Total Management System in place and meeting the requirements of AUQA,” Ms Sharrock said.
AUQA’s (Australian Universities Quality Agency) criteria reflects the ‘Excellence Awards’ framework, and ISO certification, which contains elements of continuous improvement. It will help CQU achieve its aim of excellence in Australian business education.
“The preparation for AUQA and the experience gained from the ISO certification will prove to be a very useful pilot for other faculties and sections of the University,” Dr Killion said.
A third party Quality ISO Audit was carried out at the Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg campuses last month.
AUQA quality auditing is an initiative of the Federal Government designed to ensure all Australian universities and operational processes have appropriate standards that are monitored and maintained across all key areas of teaching, learning and research.
