Over 100 years ago in the Federation era, many of the children of Far North Queensland in this book walked barefoot through the bindi-eyes to school. Their huts had bark roofs and ant-bed floors.

Barefoot Through the Bindies is comprised of the life stories of 19 North Queenslanders who were in their late 80s or 90s when they recorded their memories.

This book stems from the North Queensland Oral History Project which was funded by the Australian Research Council in 1980.
