CQU Press awarded $8000 by Australia Council

CQU Press publisher Professor David Myers this week announced that the Press had again won an award of $8000 from the Literature Board of the Australia Council for 2006-2007.

"These are hotly contested and very prestigious awards won against nationwide competition," he said.

A sum of $4000 was awarded for the publication of a national short story anthology entitled 'Confessions and Memoirs', and edited by Michael Wilding and David Myers.

Contributors to this 3rd national anthology will include Thomas Keneally, Kate Grenville, Morris Lurie, Peter Corris, VG Armanno, Bob Ellis, Christina Stead and Justice Ian Callinan. Another sum of $4000 was awarded for the publication of Michael Wilding’s satirical novel, 'The Novelist’s Assistant', a roman a clef about the Balmain Push and a piece of Sydney’s more spicy and spontaneous literary history.

On August 6 at the Byron Bay Writers’ Festival, CQU Press is launching Michael Wilding’s 'Wild Amazement' and David Myers’s 'Glorious Gods and Swaggering Heroes'.

Over the years, the Byron Bay Festival has grown from a regional celebration to a huge, nationwide showcase that takes up a full week.

"CQU Press is proud to be a part of this festival," says Professor Myers.

Wilding is doing a separate session in which he is being interviewed by former Senator Irina Dunn and Myers is also doing a separate session entitled 'Digging up the Past'.
