CQU highly commended at international education industry showcase

CQU was highly commended for its 'International Support Services and Pastoral Care' at the Queensland International Education and Training Industry (QETI) Showcase, hosted by the Queensland Government, on September 7 in Brisbane.

“Support and care of students are not the responsibility of a single unit or department within the University. They are responsibilities, shared by CQU with C_MS -- and our other partners -- and performed by of us all everyday,” said CQU Vice Chancellor & President Professor John Rickard.

PhotoID:3549 “CQU has the largest number of international students on-shore in Australia. The quality and number of services provided by staff have been recognised by the industry and my congratulations go out to staff for looking after the needs of all of our students so well and for making CQU a standout performer,” added Professor Rickard.

QETI also acknowledged the contributions made by CQU Masters of Research student Tao (Tony) Pang, who was among 10 students nominated for 'Outstanding Achievement by an International Student'. Although another entrant received the award, Tony’s achievements were recognised.

A mechanical engineer and graduate of the College of Aerospace Engineering & Applied Mechanics of Tongji University in Shanghi, Tony holds a Masters of Research scholarship from CQU’s Centre for Railway Engineering.

His current research is on the structural integrity of track, which will benefit Queensland Rail and heavy industries, such as coal, that use the rail system. He is also an active member in the local community and President of the CQU Chinese Student and Scholars Association.

Earlier this year Tony was named ambassador-at-large of CQU’s Multicultural Fair.
