Power station operator NRG Gladstone Operating Services has been energised by its involvement with the Bachelor of Information Technology Co-op program.
The company's Superintendent Information Services Darryl Bond (pictured) has recently hosted CQU IT student David Kamholtz.
"The right student brings a fresh look at technology skills that the organisation may not have," he said.
"They can take on projects that return value to the organiation that would not have been otherwise undertaken.
"There is also the challenge to other staff members to mentor the students which often brings out different perspectives".
Mr Bond said the Co-op program provides an opportunity to take a longer-term look at candidates for future positions.
"The same could be said from the students' perspective," he said.
Mr Bond said he would recommend that other employers undertake the BIT Co-op placements.
