Community to use social survey for own research

A snapshot of Queensland will be generated from a public opinion phone survey to be held mid-2007.

The Population Research Laboratory, based at CQU Rockhampton, will conduct the third annual Queensland Social Survey (2007 QSS) in July and August this year.

The 2007 QSS is an omnibus survey aimed at obtaining public opinion on a range of topics held by a representative sample of Queensland residents.

The survey offers community and academic researchers the opportunity to access large-scale population-based research for a fraction of the cost associated with stand-alone surveys by sponsoring questions for the survey.

CQU's Centre for Social Science Research established the Population Research Laboratory (PRL) in 1999 to serve the needs of both university and non-university groups for high-quality, cost-efficient, large-scale survey research. The PRL is a fully integrated Computer-Assisted-Telephone-Interview (CATI) lab.

The 2007 QSS will target 800 respondents from South-East Queensland (Brisbane and Moreton Statistical Divisions) and 400 from the remainder of the State.
