Noosa crew 'in tent' on community interaction

Staff and students associated with CQUniversity Noosa lent their talents to a 'Creative Kids' tent at the inaugural Great Noosa Camp Out recently.
Lecturer Sue Davis' involvement was sparked by networking during last year's Noosa Creative Alliance project and she was supported by colleagues, including Campus Academic Manager Susan Richardson and part-time tutor (and ceramic artist) Ellen Appleby.
They were joined at the family-friendly music festival by enthusiastic Learning Management students and CQUniversity provided the tent as well as art supplies and promotional gear.
"It seemed like a good opportunity for CQUniversity to promote its presence and programs in the local community and also for some of our creative students to practice their skills in a different context," Sue said.
"Luckily some very talented BLM students came on board to help me plan and facilitate the children's programs."
"It ended up being a really wet day and the numbers were less than anticipated but we had a constant flow of parents and kids who were really appreciative of what we had on offer (basically a range of creative activities including clayplay, puppet making, printmaking, pet rocks, marble painting, mask making and paper construction).
"What was also great was that some of the parents were locals who were also mentor teachers for the BLM program - they commented on how great it was to see us out engaged in a community event."
