Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

City parade highlight of Gladstone graduation evening 

A parade down the main street is a highlight of the CQU Gladstone graduation, scheduled for 6.30pm on Thursday, May 24, at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre.

A total of 61 graduates will attend, including 29 from Arts, Humanities and Education, 11 from Business and Informatics and 21 from Sciences Engineering and Health.

The closing address on behalf of graduates will be given by Susan Williams, whose role as an employee at CQU Gladstone normally involves organising graduates on the day. On this occasion Susan has delegated the role so she can enjoy the event.

Entertainment will be provided by the Chanel College Choir and local vocalist Shelly Hills (accompanied by Angel Abraham).

The guest speaker is Randall Byram, the Chief Executive of the Gladstone Economic and Industry Development Board (GEIDB).

Mr Byram has extensive project management and delivery experience in the areas of sustainable industrial development and region wide infrastructure facilitation, with a focus on the resource sector.  He has worked extensively on some of Queensland's most important economic development initiatives including the Australia TradeCoast area in Brisbane, the North West Queensland Minerals Province and the Gladstone Development Region.

He has also tutored at the School of International Business and Politics at Griffith University.

 Randall is a Churchill Fellow, and an advocate of eco-industrial integration as a means of attracting energy intensive industry, while fulfilling environmental and social goals.

The Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor will officiate at the ceremony.
