50 graduates at Sunshine Coast ceremony

A total of 50 graduates will attend next Tuesday's (June 26) graduation ceremony for Central Queensland University students based in the Sunshine Coast area.

While most are from the Bachelor of Learning Management (education) program, there are also some from the Faculty of Business & Informatics and from the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health.

The ceremony will be held from 6.30pm at the Australis Noosa Lakes in Noosaville.

It will be officiated by Chancellor Rennie Fritschy and Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Angela Delves.

There will be a guest address by Dr Ken Rowe, the Research Director of the Learning Processes research program at the Australian Council for Educational Research.

Anna McMahon will deliver a closing address on behalf of the graduates. Another graduate Lana Andrew will receive the Faculty of Education & Creative Arts Staff prize for being the Noosa Hub student achieving the highest grade point average in the Bachelor of Learning Management program in 2006.

Participants will continue their celebration during a graduation dinner at the same venue (Lago's room) and social photos are welcome.

Central Queensland University has recently established a new Noosa Hub to support its students living on the Sunshine Coast.

The new Hub, in the Noosaville Professional Centre in Goodchap Street, replaces CQU's previous Noosa Hub in the grounds of Cooroora Secondary College in Pomona.

The Pomona site had been a valued base for CQU's learning management (teaching) students gaining classroom experience with various Sunshine Coast schools.

Meanwhile,  the new Hub is also supporting students studying nursing with CQU by distance education from across Queensland and interstate.

The new Noosaville facilities include computer access (including to CQU's electronic library services), a lecture space, tutorial rooms, offices for staff based in the area and a new simulated ward for nursing, including a state of the art mannequin that allows students to practice advanced heath assessment techniques and life support measures.

A total of $650,000 was spent on refurbishments and extra equipment was transported to the site.

The main CQU contacts at Goodchap Street are David Turner (Education) and Marc Broadbent (Nursing).

The new site has been operating since March, and the new CQU signage was installed in early May.
