CQU supports Sunshine Coast nursing celebrations

Hospital bed races, an industry seminar, a media breakfast and a charity dinner are on the agenda for celebrations designed to champion regional nursing in Queensland.

The week of initiatives are timed around International Nurses Day (May 12) and coordinated by Regional Nursing Solutions, with CQU as a founding sponsor.

The objective is to put the spotlight on the nursing industry, present a positive and vibrant nursing community and celebrate the good work achieved daily by those in nursing careers.

One of the more visible aspects will be a media breakfast and a series of hospital bed races, nurses scrubs races and nurse/patient speed wraps at the famous Big Pineapple.

The initiative also involves an evening seminar hosted by the Association of Queensland Nurse Leaders and a 'Big Wrap' charity dinner.

The RNS Big Wrap for nurses is a day of celebrations at The Big Pineapple on Saturday May 12, launching with the unveiling of The Big Pineapple bandaged in an iconic statement of thanks and gratitude to all our regional nurses and health care workers.

RNS owner and Director Sue Dunlop comments, "This is our way of literally giving nurses a Big Wrap on their day. We wanted to create an event on the Sunshine Coast that puts the spot light on the nursing industry and all the people that work in the field to give them a well-earned thanks. We hope this is something that nurses and our community will get behind ensuring that it continues to take place annually, cementing the Sunshine Coast's support for nurses".

Organisers are keen for involvement from CQU nursing staff and students, as well as the wider health industry and community.

The theme of International Nurses Day this year is 'Positive Practice Environments - quality work places equals quality patient care'.
