Rocky urged to 'beef' it up

With Rockhampton slightly behind Townville in the City of Origin 10,000 Steps challenge, the Beef Capital will have to step it up a notch over the next few weeks to win the event.

Rockhampton’s Week 1 total step count per total population was 279, while Townsville’s was 345.

PhotoID:3537 10,000 Steps Project Leader, Professor Kerry Mummery said although Townsville was currently in the lead, Rockhampton was still a real contender.

He said there was still time for teams of up to 5 to register for the Challenge and contribute to Rockhampton’s total. Call the 10,000 Steps office on 4930 6751 to register.

The Physical Activity Capricornia Taskforce (PACT) has coordinated the City of Origin as a community-wide challenge to see which city can record the most STEPS in relation to their total population.

The contest runs for 6 weeks until Saturday October 28.

Each day, participants record their steps on the 10,000 steps website. The website includes an activity calculator so people can update their details even without a pedometer.

Completing just 30 minutes of physical activity a day is a great way to clock up those steps and help Rockhampton show Townsville that we really are the more active city.

Pedometers are available for purchase through participating outlets or for loan at the CQU library. For further details visit: www.10000steps.org.au.
