CQU books are sold!

The CQU Library Society’s annual second-hand book sale has been and gone, but the profits will linger longer.

The sale included close to 10 000 items donated by the public and various libraries. There were all kinds of books, including children’s books and collectors’ items, as well as magazines, sheet music, encyclopaedias and records.

PhotoID:1463 Members of the North Mackay Rotary Club arrived on Saturday morning to assist with set-up for the book sale, which was held on Sunday and Monday, September 12-13.

Library Society member Ms Robin McWhinney said the book sale was very well attended, particularly on Sunday when many patrons arrived an hour early to ensure they had first choice of books. One member of the public even came out of hospital to attend! Mackay Campus Library Manager Ms Jacky Cribb is very pleased with the sale and said that, although it was not a year for record profits, over three quarters of the books have been sold with profits over $1300.

PhotoID:1464 The remaining books have been donated to the North Mackay Rotary Club, who plans to send many of the text books to Tonga.

“The book sale is one of the biggest fundraisers for the CQU Mackay Library Society and all funds raised will be used to buy resources for the library," Ms Cribb said.
