Business as usual despite library renovations

CQU Gladstone\'s campus library will be undergoing a facelift over the next couple of months when it is transformed into an Information Commons, a one-stop shop for IT, information and learning needs.
CQU Gladstone Campus Librarian, Karin Simon said many libraries in Australia and worldwide are moving this way in an attempt to provide students with facilities that will enhance their studies.
“We are able to accommodate the different ways students learn by having everything they need in one convenient place. The new area will include library resources both electronic and physical, computing facilities and IT support, group study and meeting areas and a conducive learning environment that includes food, drinks and comfortable spaces for study,” said Mrs Simon.
The renovations, which commenced on February 6, are scheduled to take 10 weeks but it is hoped the major construction will be completed earlier. Once completed, the library will have a 25-seat computer lab, new photocopying room, group-focused computer facilities with cafi style seating and small meeting/study room with computing and videoconferencing capabilities.
Mrs Simon said there will be little or no disruption to library services during the renovations.
“Currently photocopying and printing is free of charge for students and the computers and group study rooms are still available. Loans, renewals, requests for books from other campuses and online resources are all still available.”
