Students will have the opportunity to get ‘hands-on' with activities such as building string bridges, measuring themselves for space suits, recycling paper, recovering water from a cup of tea and holding back a sea of sand with sugar cube walls.

On each of the 3 days, the students also get to meet an engineer who will talk about themselves, their job and the kinds of tasks their work requires them to do. During the program the students will work with 3 engineers from different disciplines.

"The program allows students to experience a taste of engineering and shows how science and maths are important subjects that have a very important place in society," Program Coordinator Paul Richards said.

"It also allows students to understand more about the engineering profession."

Engineering Link Programs are coordinated by The Engineering Link Group, an educational charity established and operated by teachers. The group has been coordinating courses since 1994, firstly in Townsville and for the last 5 years in Rockhampton.

The Rockhampton project is sponsored by Stanwell Corporation and by CQUniversity's Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health.
