Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard presents Jennifer Frazer with her Excel Award.Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard presented the 2007 Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence to General Staff (EXCEL Awards) and the Vice-Chancellor's Customer Service Awards to General Staff at last week's Christmas Party.

Each EXCEL Award recipient received a grant of $2,500 to be used for further professional development along with a citation of excellence.

The 2007 Vice-Chancellors Excel Awards were presented to Jennifer Frazer, the Library Research aCQUIRe Team, the Mackay Library Team and Gary Hoare and Ian Major.

Jennifer Frazer is the Research Administration Officer for the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education. In addition to the outstanding level of service that Jenny provides the Faculty Research Department on an everyday basis, Jenny's main claim to fame is the outstanding effort she has made as the sole administrator for the Faculties Edited Collections for 2006. This has been a great success and it looks as though the 2007 collection will be bigger and better than ever.

The Library Research aCQUIRe team received an Excel Award.Library Research aCQUIRe Team (Debbie Orr, Elke Dawson, Mark Young, Sue Evans, Kate Houston, Libbie Blanchard, Jaron Stidiford, Bruce Hart, Chelsea Harper) - this team was responsible for the selection, installation and implementation of aCQUIRe - CQU's institutional repository. This system allows authors to submit their work directly into the aCQUIRe database.

Mackay Library Team (Pauline McNee, Shelley Dent, John Atkinson, Erin Gallant) - the Mackay Library Team have made an outstanding contribution to community engagement and cultural endeavour which is all in addition to their regular duties which support the libraries mission of Empowering Teaching, Learning and Research within the University. The team have used their wealth of skills such as web design and maintenance, marketing and promotions to build and maintain the Library Society website which also promotes the various fundraising and cultural activities of the Library Society.

Gary Hoare and Ian Major have been recognised for their outstanding engineering machining support they have provided to the PELM Corrosion Group over the past 5 years. Gary and Ian built in the workshop a device primarily designed by Dr Alexandre Deeve which will now be used to allow engineers and scientists to study corrosion processed in controlled, extreme flow situations. The machining of this device was very challenging, however, Gary and Ian not only met the challenge but their contribution improved the original design.

The winners of these awards were recognised by their colleagues for providing continuous and excellent level of customer service.

The winners of the Customer Service Awards were: Marlene Page, Karen Chapman, Linda Ahern, Allan Gadsby and Judith Jensen.

Each Customer Service Award recipient received a grant of $1,000 to be used for further professional development and a citation of excellence.
