Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Gladstone campus to open doors to community this Sunday 

Gladstone residents will have the opportunity to sample foods and entertainment from around the world while finding out about their local university at this Sunday’s 2006 Gladstone Multicultural Festival & Discover CQU Day.

PhotoID:3187 Thousands of visitors are expected to visit the marina and CQU campus to enjoy the activities at the campus and the entertainment and cuisine from the Festival.

CQU Gladstone Community Relations Officer, Shannon Connor said organisers of both events were expecting a great day.

“There will be over a dozen food stalls from which people can sample foods from, craft displays and entertainment on stage all day including performances by a group of native South American musicians, Walisumna de los Andes.

“Across the road at the Gladstone campus we will be running interactive tours on the hour and staff will be available all day for program and careers information.

“The younger visitors will also be kept busy with the faculty displays including badge making, an Internet Hunt, novelty diplomas, free giveaways and a reading corner,” said Ms Connor.
