CQ Coaches Can Lift Game Across Several Sports

Central Queensland coaches can gain nationally-recognised Level 1 accreditation for up to five sports in only one week.

A menu of 11 sports will be on offer for the Coaching Accreditation Week, to be held at Central Queensland University from July 8-13.

PhotoID:99 Coordinator David Lapere, from CQU's Faculty of Education and Creative Arts, said students, teachers, sports leaders and coaches would all benefit from gaining Level 1 qualifications.

"'Level 0 accreditation is now considered a prerequisite for coaching in the community setting, while Education Queensland specifies Level 1 as a pre-condition for teaching and coaching many sports within the school environment," he said.

Mr Lapere said the courses on offer in July included golf, volleyball, soccer, sailing, touch football, cricket, water polo, softball, AFL, netball, basketball, and coaching athletes with disabilities.

He said coaches who did not have a General Coaching Principals (GCP) certificate (or relevant university study) could still attend the week, as long as they completed a GCP course being offered at CQU on July 6-7.
