Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Kele attends wastewater event 

CQU’s wastewater guru Ben Kele attended a wastewater training and installation day at Happy Valley last month.

About 17 environmental health officers from 9 different councils, along with representatives from the Department of Health, universities, as well as other consultants, witnessed the installation of an evapo-transpiration/absorption system.

PhotoID:3200 Some highlights of the day included Mr Kele’s explanation of soil science and social considerations in wastewater design.

University of Newcastle’s David Stafford’s demonstrated the siphon apparatus. Mr Stafford’s recently developed siphon system was used at Happy Valley to provide evenly balanced jets of wastewater to flow right across the entire disposal network.
