Jakarta's Nugi and jillaroo Jorunn meet at Going Home event

CQUniversity's Going Home event for international students is always a colourful affair and it was no exception when Indonesian Ministry of Finance official Nugi meet up with Germany's Jorunn Lorenzen, who became a jillaroo when arriving in Australia.

Nugi (full name Nugroho Juli Purnana) has been studying a Master of Management, specialising in HRM, and is looking forward to applying his academic knowledge to his job with the Indonesian government in Jakarta.

Thanks to an AusAid scholarship, he has enjoyed living and studying in a smaller city, rather than risking being distracted by the hustle and bustle of Sydney or Melbourne.

Nugi has found time to get involved with the campus soccer club and has enjoyed improving his English skills while meeting other Australian and international students. While he got the chance to return to Jakarta on term breaks, he is now looking forward to spending more time with his family back home.

Meanwhile, Jorunn was active as a student mentor over the course of her Arts degree at Rockhampton Campus. She originally came to Australia to experience farm work but then feel in love with an Aussie jackaroo.

"I'm now considering to apply for a permanent visa," Jorunn said. "At the moment I am happy here with my partner and not planning on returning to Europe, but who knows what the future holds. I am thinking about working in the mines for a while to build some savings. Then I may well return to Uni part time for postgrad studies and find a job in environmental management/consultancy or marketing/creative direction or start my own business.

"I am also very passionate about photography and will consider to spend more time on that hobby and take it a little further maybe when I have some resources to purchase some more photography gear!

"I feel that my studies at CQUni have given me confidence and knowledge to pursue many opportunities and take on challenges.

"Parallel to this, my partner and I are planning on moving and finding a nice property somewhere."
