Education student enjoys parliamentary 'buzz'

CQUniversity Bachelor of Learning Management student Dale Mitchell says that nothing can describe the "buzz" you get from speaking in Parliament.

And he should know! Dale was the 'Youth Member for Keppel' at the recent Youth Parliament in Brisbane (June 30-July 5), representing his home town of Emu Park and the wider electorate.

"Without input from the youth of the state, politicians and others, the government and representative bodies are building a future for us which we mightn't necessarily agree with," Dale said.

"By allowing such a diverse range of people to gather, discuss and debate issues of importance, a voice is given to the young people of today and the citizens of tomorrow.

"It's amazing to think about the amount of change which has occurred within that room and the impact which it has had on all of our lives.

"Just to speak there gives you a huge rush of power. I like to think I'm a pretty confident public speaker, but when I was there my feet were even shaking. It was the experience of a lifetime; where else do you get to yell your head off for the 'good' of the people?"
