Uni saddened by death of long-time supporter

Central Queensland University is deeply saddened by the death of its long-time supporter Sir Albert Abbott.

Sir Albert worked tirelessly and fervently to bring educational opportunities to the citizens of the Mackay region.

Sir Albert became involved with the CQU Mackay Campus in its very early days when he was instrumental in assisting the University in obtaining the land at Planlands where the campus is situated.

He also played an active role on the CQU Mackay Advisory Committee, and he Chaired the Fabric and Finance Sub-Committee for many years.

CQU awarded Sir Albert an honorary Doctor of the University in 1996 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the community.

Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard has expressed condolences to Sir Albert’s wife, Lady Gwen, on behalf of the staff and students of the University who have benefited from Sir Albert’s vision and tireless support.
