CQUniversity Melbourne winners of the State Director's Awards have been praised for guiding other students to success.
These awards primarily acknowledge outstanding academic achievement but also indicate leadership potential and qualities which inspire others.
They recognise active contributions to learning activities, assistance to fellow students, respect for cultural diversity and strong interpersonal and communication skills
The winners for Term 2, 2008 are:
Saba Shabnam Maqsood Iqbal (Master of Information Systems)
From Chennai in India, Saba has spent almost 2 years in Australia and is already working as a business analyst. She believes her decision to choose CQUniversity for her postgraduate studies has proved worthwhile as demonstrated by her consistently excellent results. Academic staff also commended her inquisitive nature, leadership skills and collegiate spirit assisting other students. Saba is now highly motivated and focused on her ambition to find a management role where she can shine. Her confidence and strong oratory and presentation skills also earned her the honour of delivering the graduate's representative address.
Campus Director Darryl Stewart congratulates the awardees
Ji Ho Sohn (Bachelor of Hospitality Management)
Coming from South Korea, Ji Ho initially experienced culture shock adjusting to such a different educational environment, but his determination, and the valued assistance of Learning Support Unit staff, enabled him to overcome these challenges and achieve solid grades. His regular attendance and focus on preparation before classes provided an impressive example to fellow students who benefited from his initiative and contribution to group activities. Ji's goal now is to find position and begin a successful career in Korea, ideally in a marketing role with one of the large international companies there.
Susan Dragon (Master of Arts Administration)
Susan, who is from Malaysia, earned extremely high praise for her initiative, creativity and capacity to deal with complex ideas which she then shared coherently with her classmates. Already an accomplished artist, Susan sought every opportunity to reap the full benefit of her studies and achieved an exceptionally high and consistent standard, regularly displaying her talents via a range of multi media. Despite her unassuming manner, Susan has ample reasons to be very proud as she has now been accepted by 2 institutions to begin a research PhD in arts therapy!
Shefali Varma (Master of Information Systems)
At the outset of her studies, Shefali's family in New Delhi, India, supported and encouraged her to aim for a Director's Award. Her diligence and motivation are certainly reflected by her excellent results and ensured she reached that goal. Her lecturers and tutors admired her focus and excellent interpersonal skills and she readily acknowledges their support was a highlight at CQUniversity. There seems no doubt that she is well on the way to achieving her next goal which is to excel in data mining and obtain an IT management role, possibly with IBM.
