Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Guidance officers given the stats 

Almost 40,000 students graduated from Year 12 last year with over 28,000 of those eligible for OP and FP scores, according to the Queensland Studies Authority.

Fourteen percent of students sitting the Queensland Core Skills test received an A-grade, the highest grade from a possible five. Two percent received an E-grade.

PhotoID:378 These statistics and others were presented at a Secondary-Tertiary Links Seminar held at CQU Rockhampton this week.

The seminar was organised to give relevant information to the region\'s school guidance coordinators.

The group was also informed of the role of the Queensland Studies Authority and QTAC.

Speakers included Coordinator for Secondary-Tertiary Links QSA, Inese Tenisons and Manager of Public Relations and Information for the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre, Pat Smith.

CQU admissions officer Susan Collins made a presentation to the group about CQU’s Autumn term admissions, cut-off scores and promoted the University as an institution that provides quality education to domestic students throughout Queensland.

Central Queensland Institute of TAFE’s Mackay campus manager Kent Eising and Wide Bay Institute of TAFE’s Counsellor Ian Black also made presentations throughout the day.
