Information Technology placements available at CQU

Students are still being offered a chance to enrol in Information Technology studies at Central Queensland University.

Faculty of Informatics and Communication Mackay Sub-Dean Donald Alexander said the rapid adoption of information technology practices would see more jobs created for graduates in the future.

“While there is currently a slight downturn in information technology employment roles, by the time students graduate it is extremely likely they will be in a good position for successful entry into the industry,” he said.

“Recent reports suggest enrolling students could look forward to a positive swing in the computing profession. According to a study completed by the National Office for the Information Economy, more than 110 000 new jobs are likely to be created in Australia by 2005.” Mr Alexander said he expected demand for software engineering, multimedia, Internet technologies and machine intelligence skills to grow. “CQU’s IT program provides a solid grounding for students wishing to specialise in IT for the next decade. Recent graduates have readily found work in the region and interstate.” Well over 400 new students kick-start the autumn term after taking part in various Orientation Week activities from Monday.

CQU Mackay Head of Campus Associate Professor Phillip Clift expected O’Week events would help ease the transition to university studies.

“Apart from having a week of fun, the students will develop skills that will enhance their ability to succeed in their chosen studies,” he said.
