VC tips more links with Uni of Third Age

The University of the Third Age and CQUniversity Rockhampton will boost their opportunities for mutual support, if Vice-Chancellor Scott Bowman has his way.

Professor Bowman was inducted as Patron of U3A Rockhampton by U3A President Chris Tollner, during the organisation's Annual General Meeting held at the Frenchville Club on March 1.

Acknowledging the extensive interaction that already occurs - with Chris Tollner a part of the University's Consultative Committee and with the U3A office and other activities embedded on Rockhampton Campus, the Vice-Chancellor opened the door wide to encourage even more joint activity.

He went on to detail how the University will be concentrating on Central Queensland and its needs in the immediate future, with the first of new medical science courses for diagnostic radiographers and sonographers announced last week.

Professor Bowman's inside information about changes to the campus and additions to courses offered, in particular one that will relate to older people and their healthy ageing, was warmly received by U3A members who asked many questions at the conclusion of the meeting.

The Vice-Chancellor has also had the pleasure of visiting the Capricorn Coast U3A group and Rockhampton Probus over the past 2 weeks.

"As part of our plan is to be the most engaged University in Australia within the next 10 years, meeting members of our community organisations and learning about their interests and their concerns for this region, as a relative newcomer, is an absolute bonus," the VC said.

"We value their interest in our University and will be looking to them to become advocates for us over the next few years.  I look forward to going back to these groups at regular intervals to update them on our progress."
