From China to Cyprus, Aussie water course bouyant with help from CQUni
Published on 14 April, 2010
A growing number of Australians and overseas students from as far afield as China and Cyprus are helping to ensure the bouyancy of a postgraduate program on sustainable water management.
CQUniversity is among the 5 Australian universities delivering content for the ICEWarRM suite of courses, showing that the driest continent on earth can produce top-notch water specialists.
ICEWaRM is the International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management, which involves CQUniversity, Flinders, Deakin, University of South Australia, and the University of Adelaide.
Through ICEWaRM, CQUniversity teaches postgraduate students from all 5 universities sustainable water management up to the Master's level. CQUniversity has ranked highest in the student feedback forms so far.
This year we have 46 students enrolled; the largest class ever and also the largest of CQUniversity's postgraduate science courses. Numbers have been growing steadily since the courses became available 4 years ago.
Most students are employed water specialists using the course as professional development.
Our ICEWaRM students are taught via Access Grid technology; a format where CQUniversity is a world leader thanks to our grid coordinator Jason Bell. CQUniversity is one of the few universities in the world to offer a full-course via the Access Grid and it's even rarer to offer recordings of the lectures to external students.
Dr Judith Wake and Associate Professor David Druskovich run the CQUniversity side of the program while Ben Kele delivers lectures and is co-author for one of the core courses. CQUniversity research is also brought into the course as case studies.
