"The training and retention of mining and metals processing professionals in Central Queensland is essential to GNP and CQUniversity will help us with that," explained John Downie, Chief Executive Officer, GNP.

GPN is establishing a large nickel and cobalt refinery at Gladstone and a mining operation at Marlborough. The company will produce metal products for the global nickel market to meet the growing demand for stainless steel and recyclable/reusable batteries.

"Supporting CQUniversity is a key part of our social infrastructure strategy in the region. They  will help us establish and maintain world class facilities here in Central Queensland," said John Downie, Chief Executive Officer, Gladstone Pacific Nickel.

Focussing on the needs of all Nickel producers and the current skill shortages in the industry, CQUniversity and GPN will work together to establish a network of industry and academic professionals who will produce courses and create new professional development products and services.

"We are very pleased to have a learning and research partnership with GNP that's contributing to a more sustainable region," said CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor John Rickard.

Earlier this year GPN and CQUniversity Australia established an annual Co-Funded Industry Scholarship worth $30 000 for individuals undertaking an industry-focused Doctorate degree.
