All roads to Rome for health researchers who beat the odds

CQUniversity PhD candidate Judith Applegarth and academics Dr Trudy Dwyer and Associate Professor Lorna Moxham have beaten the odds to have their paper accepted for the next European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology (ESHRE) annual meeting, scheduled for Rome from June 27-30.

"There was a less than 3% chance of even getting up," Dr Moxham said.

Organisers received a total of 1539 abstracts (up 17% on 2009). A total of 138 of these were rejected at the pre-screening stage. In total, 1401 abstracts were reviewed by an international panel and a selection made for 44 oral communication sessions and posters.

Dr Moxham said the CQUniversity team's paper titled 'Assisted reproductive technology nursing: Positioning Australian research in the global context' was pre-selected for the 'Exchange Award for Nurses' category.

The paper is based on Judith's PhD research.
