Shanghai student talks his way into free trip to Rockhampton

Shanghai International Studies University student Sun Jianping will visit CQU Rockhampton and surrounds in early August thanks to his grasp of the English language.

PhotoID:1278 Mr Jianping (pictured right with the judges) was among winners of the third annual Queensland Cup Shanghai Students’ English Speech Contest.

Contestants were judged on their capacity for interactive dialogue.

The prize consists of a three-week visit to Queensland for educational and cultural purposes.

Most Queensland universities (including CQU), some schools and TAFE provide scholarships for this event which is coordinated by the Queensland Government Trade and Investment Office in China.

CQU Dean of International Programs Professor Debbie Clayton was a judge for the second time and was impressed by the calibre of entrants.

PhotoID:1279 “This event is a great PR opportunity which profiles Queensland and CQU, links us to government and profiles us with the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission,” Professor Clayton said.
