Quality management information system project underway

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Resources) requested the investigation of a management information system applicable to the management of data, information and reporting appropriate for all quality management systems currently being managed or implemented across the University.

A project was subsequently initiated to develop a system that will support the management of the University’s quality processes. Action Request (AR) software tools will be used for the development of this system. The scope for the initial project has been defined as the management of compliments, comments, complaints (CCC), non-conformances (NC), and quality audits. Two sub-systems are being developed by ITD staff in consultation with a reference group for the University to manage its quality processes and procedures.

Membership of the reference group includes a number of different faculties and divisions covering a range of quality management systems (i.e. both ISO and non-ISO based quality systems). These representatives are Division of Library Services, JG Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems, Faculty of Business and Law and Faculty of Informatics and Communication.

General design specifications incorporating the business rules were considered and subsequently endorsed by the Reference Group for comment. The Reference Group have confirmed the General Design Standards.

The reference group met with ITD staff to review the proposed system for demonstration, final consultation and approval on Thursday 22nd April 2004. It is anticipated that the first sub system of the QMIS will be deployed by the end of May 2004.

The QMIS is available to all organisational units of the University for management of data, information and reporting from quality management systems. Further information relating to the QMIS application and deployment is available by contacting CQU Quality Officer, Jo Miller, x 2590 or j.m.miller@cqu.edu.au.
