Cup on Wheels postponed

The CQUniversity Cup on Wheels, one of the cycling circuit's leading events, scheduled for 14-15 January at the Rockhampton Velodrome has been postponed due to the extensive Queensland flooding. A new date has not yet been announced.

CQUniversity has again backed Capricornia's hugely successful CQUniversity Cup on Wheels for the eighth consecutive year. Last month Professor Rob Reed, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, returned to the Rockhampton Velodrome on Berserker Street to meet cyclists ahead of the competition.

"CQUniversity is delighted to be the naming sponsor supporting the CQUniversity Cup on Wheels for the eighth consecutive year," Reed said.
"The event showcases to cyclists from across the country the first rate facilities that we have in this region. Rockhampton is blessed to have such great cycling facilities for a relatively small regional city, in comparison to the medals the city has produced.
"Sport is a great way to connect with our community and our region, and we are happy to support this event that is closely aligned with our core business through our research and our programs."
CQUniversity and the Talent Identification program has helped to identify many junior and adult male and female medal winners, who may not otherwise even considered cycling as a sport.
The University's partnership with Rockhampton Cycling Club has been strong and multi-faceted, involving sponsorship, research, access to facilities and talent identification (TID).
The CQUniversity Cup on WheelsIn addition, a number of students, staff members and graduates have been involved with the club and the University is part of the national Elite Athlete Program which enables athletes to fit their studies around competition commitments.
"We are particularly excited that one of the university's ambassadors, Commonwealth Games medalist, Anna Meares, will be returning to her home town to compete and be part of this great event," Reed said.
