Lifesize puppets were recently used to help Central Queensland University Mackay education students understand the support required for assisting children living with cancer.
The McDonald’s Camp Quality Puppets facilitators used parts of an educational program to highlight ways of delivering fun and positive messages.
CQU Education Lecturer Cecily Knight said pre-service teachers learnt strategies for helping children who needed extra support in the classroom.
“To overcome challenges in their lives, such as coping with serious illness, children draw on both internal and environmental strengths,” she said.
“Teachers who have relevant knowledge and attitudes can strengthen the support networks for children and their families by providing supportive environments.” Nearly 2 million Australian school children have seen the puppet presentation.
