Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

'Disruptive youth solutions' a hot topic 

More than 50 people turned out on a Thursday night in Rockhampton (Dec 10) for a presentation about solutions and interventions available in relation to highly disruptive youth.

The talk by CQUniversity's Chair in Clinical Psychology, Professor Kevin Ronan was presented at the Criterion Hotel as part of the Research Unplugged series, hosted by the Institute for Health and Social Science Research.

Audience members travelled from as far afield as Gympie to attend and represented a range of organisations, including: Anglicare, Child and Youth Mental Health, Child Safety, CRYPAR (Coordinated Response to Young People at Risk), Department of Communities, Girls Time Out, Police Citizens Youth Club, Rockhampton Bipolar Fellowship, Roseberry Community Service, Wahroonga Counselling Centre and Youth Futures Capricornia. Guidance officers and staff from various Yeppoon and Rockhampton schools also attended.

As a result of the event, Professor Ronan received invitations to present his topic at future meetings of 2 community groups.
