Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Around 900 attend CQU capital city graduations 

Around 900 graduates from more than 40 countries throughout the world, including Australia, will attend Central Queensland University graduation ceremonies in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this week (Tues/Wed/Thurs).

Former Central Queensland University Vice-Chancellor Lauchlan Chipman will become an Emeritus Professor of the University during a graduation ceremony in Brisbane today (Tuesday, May 11, 2pm at The Concert Hall, Performing Arts Centre, Cnr of Grey and Melbourne Streets).

The CQU ceremony will be attended by around 140 graduates from CQU’s Brisbane and Gold Coast international campuses and other parts of the University’s network.

Graduates have come from 27 different countries throughout the Asia-Pacific and elsewhere, including Canada, Colombia, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland and Australia.

Professor Chipman is also the guest speaker for the event. He will speak about the inevitable privatisation of universities and the search for cheaper transfer of professional knowledge.

Almost 500 graduates from throughout the world will attend a Central Queensland University ceremony at Sydney Town Hall this week (Wednesday, May 12, from 12.30pm). This will be the 19th graduation ceremony for the CQU Sydney International campus.

Guest speaker Professor Jack Wood is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Corporate) for CQU. Professor Wood has extensive international curriculum development consulting experience in management education and training in many countries including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. During his time as a consultant to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Paris, Professor Wood published reports on Education and the Balance of Skills and The Economics of Recurrent Education.

The graduates come from more than 40 different countries from most parts of the world, ranging from Latvia and Lebanon to China and India.

More than 250 graduates from throughout the world will attend a Central Queensland University ceremony at Melbourne Town Hall this week (Thursday, May 13, from 2pm).

Guest speaker Mr Dwight King is the the Principal Consultant of K Group Consulting and has a background including electrical engineering research at the Ohio State University and 18 years in the telecommunications industry. In his position as Managing Director of Business Process and Information for Telstra Corporation, Mr King was responsible for the business processes and information systems development for the organisation. As Executive General Manager for Customer Billing, he developed and delivered one of the world’s largest Billing Information Systems which rates telephone usage and creates invoices for over nine million Telstra customers on a single platform. This system was then sold to six other major telecommunications companies. Mr King was assigned to a unique role as a Director for American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T), where he successfully resolved problems being experienced with a billing system to bill 85 million customers each month.

Graduates will attend from 26 different countries ranging from Spain and Norway to China and Chile. The largest group of graduates is from India.
