Korean's visit a milestone in enduring relationship

This week's visit to CQU Rockhampton by Miss Seo Minkyoung, Program Officer and Coordinator, Myongji University, Korea, is a milestone in an enduring relationship.

That is according to Director, International Development and Services, Professor Debbie Clayton who helped host the visit.

PhotoID:2649 Professor Clayton said the agreement between CQU and Myongji University was unique.

"The agreement has focussed historically in the arts area where both universities have worked hard to map curriculum for student cross-credit study to both institutions, thus receiving two degree awards," Professor Clayton said.

She said both parties were keen to maintain what was now an enduring 6-year relationship.

CQU signed a second 3-year term of exchange contract with Myongji in August 2005.

This new agreement allows Myongji students, who have completed 3 years of a 4-year degree program at their home university, to receive up to 2 years of credit exemption in selected CQU degree programs.

CQU is also open to accept any one-off applications in wider programs and can arrange articulations.

It is expected that at least 4 students this year will pursue a 'top-up' degree (8 courses) with the main focus in the business and arts areas.

"The purpose of today's visit is to strengthen and further develop cooperation and relationships between the two institutions," Professor Clayton said.

She said the insitutional relationship was important in the context that Korea is the third-largest export destination for Australian products and the fourth-largest trading partner for Australia.

Myongji University's primary educational objective is to 'produce leaders who can apply all they have learned in their studies with sincere belief and Christian truth'.

Miss Minkyoung met Professor Clayton and Mark Walters (from arts/humanities) to discuss the top-up programs. She also toured the campus and surrounds and visited Capricornia College.
