Performers earn praise for keeping up with Jones

Performers from CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music have earned praise for their high standard and professionalism during this month's ABC/CQCM jazz tour, headlined by Vince Jones.

Almost 9000 people attended 8 venues from Hamilton Island to the Gold Coast, during the 9-day tour.

PhotoID:3213 Rockhampton produced an audience of 900, despite a clash with State of Origin rugby league and around 1000 attended at the Gold Coast despite wet weather. Audiences were also strong on Hamilton Island and in Mackay, Emerald, Gladstone, Bundaberg and Noosa.

Feedback from audience members and city/shire council stakeholders has been overwhelmingly positive.

Millions of people got to hear about the tour and had the chance to listen to excerpts thanks to ABC Radio stations along the coast and statewide broadcasts.

A key organiser of the tour - CQU Adjunct Professor Ross Quinn - said all of the performers and featured artists (including Vince Jones, Matt McMahon, Graham Jesse and Peter Walters) were great ambassadors for CQCM and CQU.

"Special praise should go to CQCM tour director Glen Hodges and band leader Derrin Kerr who have maintained a gruelling schedule to bring a high quality entertainment and cultural experience to many people in regional Queensland," Professor Quinn said.

"I'd also like to acknowledge the contribution of Professor Alan Knight who, as the Academic Board president and Regional Centre of the Arts chair, encouraged me to initiate such a tour last year after the success of previous tours in 2001, 2002 and 2003".
