Six Minutes of Fame Results in National Award for CQCM Student

It took just six minutes for Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music student Jim McLeod to prove he was Australia’s best student composer.
Mr McLeod received the Australian Guild of Screen Composers award this week, having used sound effects and computer-generated sounds to recreate the music for a movie fight scene.
“The plaque was awarded for the music I composed for Wesley Snipe’s fight scene in Blade. The majority of the composition is techno, with R&B influences. The techno has been used to reflect the energy of the scene,” he said.
“It took just over a week to find the right sounds from creating my own material or gathering sound effects from the Internet. After creating the sounds it took another week to compose and create the finished product.” Mr McLeod hopes to generate more urban techno music suitable for television or films after finishing post-graduate studies this year. .
