Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

New DVC welcomed 

Central Queensland University welcomes Professor Ron Davies to its executive team. Davies joined CQU as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research) on 5 September, following the appointment of Professor Kevin Fagg as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Resources, earlier this year Professor Davies was formerly Faculty Research Professor, University of Calgary and Emeritus Professor from Monash University. His was the Dean, Faculty of Science, Monash University (1996-2000); Professor of Biology, Department of Biological Sciences (1989-1994) and Head, Department of Biological Sciences (1983-1988) both at the University of Calgary.

PhotoID:260 He has also held a number of Visiting Professor positions at the University of Oslo, University of Bialystok (Poland); Institute of Hydrobiology, Academy of Science, People's Republic of China; the Australian Centre for Tropical Freshwater Research and Department of Zoology at James Cook University and the University of Pretoria.

Professor Davies has an impressive range of publications including refereed journals, refereed Government Reports, refereed book chapters and consulting reports. He holds a Ph.D (Ecology) from the University of Wales, Bangor and a D.Sc (Ecology) also from the University of Wales.

Professor Fagg started at CQU before it was CQU, when it was the Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education in 1967. He was most recently the Dean of the CQU Faculty of Business and Law.

Awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 1996, Professor Fagg is nationally recognised for his services to business and management education. He was instrumental in building the base for CQU's successful International programs, and will continue to develop the international market for CQU while finalising the university's Strategic Plan for Flexible Learning. One of 82 Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) auditors for Australia, he is also an appointee of the Federal Minister for Education to the General Academic Panel of the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR), serving as the specialist in management, accounting, information systems and general business disciplines.
