Engineering students awarded $1000 scholarships

Three first-year Mackay engineering students were among those who received scholarships via video-conferencing links with Rockhampton and Gladstone CQU campuses recently.

PhotoID:490CQU Bachelor of Engineering (Co-Op) students Cameron Domotor, Brendan Peach and Nicholas Weiske were each awarded $1000, with selection based on outstanding Year 12 English, Physics and Maths results.

The students also had to offer quality teamwork, problem solving and communication skills to be eligible for the scholarships.

Engineering & Physical Systems faculty co-ordinator Fae Martin said students often used the scholarship money to purchase textbooks used in their studies. “In the CQU Engineering Co-op program we emphasise the importance of communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills from the first week of the program,” she said. She said the winning students had demonstrated they understood the importance of these skills and had excellent academic results.
