CQUniversity research students Ron Day and Elise Crawford are presenting papers at the International Conference for Control Room Design. This inaugural event will be held in Paris, France, from October 25-27.
Elise and Ron will each convene one of the sessions at the conference. Both of them are examining the additional risks that come with new technologies in complex operating environments in safety critical systems, such as those found in railway networks.
It's a safe bet, research students Ron Day and Elise Crawford will enjoy their Paris conference
Ron's research is looking at end-user participation throughout the design phase of new technologies and selection of off-the-shelf technologies, while Elise's research examines the 'human factors' issues that moderate safe and successful adoption of new technologies.
Elise and Ron were thrilled to find out that their papers will be published in the prestigious A-rated journal Applied Ergonomics.
Aside from the conference, Elise and Ron will be visiting the Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP). The Paris Metro runs 16 lines, two of which are run by driverless trains.
As well, they will visit the Électricité de France (EDF) where they will have the opportunity to speak with engineers. The EDF is the world's largest utility company run primarily from nuclear power. Its 58 active nuclear reactors produce 120,000+ megawatts of power in Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle-East and Africa.
Following the conference, Elise will travel to the south of France to discuss her area of research with Research Associate Denis Besnard within the Chair of Industrial Safety held by Erik Hollnagel, at the Mines-ParisTech.
