Liberal Senators Ian Macdonald and George Brandis visited Central Queensland University Gladstone this week.
The senators toured the campus on Wednesday and were joined by senate candidates Mark Powell and Sue Boyce.
Senator Ian McDonald said they were in Gladstone to gain a better understanding of the harbour city’s needs.
While on campus the senators spent time talking to researchers at the Process Engineering and Light Metals (PELM) complex and the Centre for Environmental Management (CEM).
Acting Head of Campus, Dr Andrew Wallace said the Senators were impressed with the campus facilities and its capacity to contribute to the region.
Their visit to Gladstone included tours of the Central Queensland Ports Authority, Rio Tinto Alumina Refinery and the Gladstone City Council.
